Adult Programs

We offer a wide variety of adult aquatics programming for swimmers of all levels!

Our programs and services are customized to meet your needs. We have classes for individuals and groups that range from the basics of swimming to advanced competition with our Masters swimming team, which was recently ranked a “Top 5 Swim Team” in the state of Illinois.

We offer group exercise classes in our pools, such as Aqua Zumba and SwimFit. Additionally, our warm water therapy pool classes provide pain and stress reduction for individuals with arthritis, or pre- or postnatal moms.

See what we have to offer in our Aquatics Department.

We offer a wide variety of fitness classes in our pools. You will find everything from Arthritis Exercise classes in our warm water pool to Aqua Zumba which is a high energy class set to Latin music.

Aquatic Classes

  • Aqua Blast – Add a little challenge with this fun, high-intensity water workout. This class includes explosive cardiovascular conditioning, upper and lower body toning along with some soothing stretches. Similar to our traditional “waterobics” class, but ramped up a bit. Moderate to high intensity without the joint impact.
  • Aqua Mix – Incorporate all elements of fitness in this one hour water workout. Increase your cardio fitness, improve your strength and develop better balance and flexibility while performing exercises using noodles, buoys or balls for a total exercise experience. All levels welcome.
  • Aqua Yoga – Relaxing aquatic exercise that allows focus on balance and strength using traditional yoga poses in the water.
  • Aqua Zumba – Add high energy Latin music and movement to the basic water workout and you get Aqua Zumba. This class is appropriate for all fitness levels and requires no swimming or dancing skills. Join the party without the impact!
  • Prenatal and Postnatal Aqua – This class provides a safe, comforting and inspiring environment that women can use and work with to become stronger and more flexible, easing the stress caused by carrying the baby. Having time to socialize and share with other who are going through the same experience can also serve as a big benefit and an excellent resource!

Arthritis Class

  • AAE – Arthritis Foundation Aquatic Program – This program includes a 45-minute water exercise routine geared specifically to those with arthritis. Improve joint flexibility and coordination, reduce muscle weakness and decrease pain and stiffness.

The arthritis classes are ongoing and you may join at any time.

Swimming is one of the most popular forms of aerobic exercise and a great workout for everyone from fitness enthusiast and tri-athletes to non-competitive swimmers. Structured workouts with a coach offer an individualized training experience to help swimmers improve general fitness or train for specific goals.

The Masters Swimming program is open to all adult swimmers ages 18 and over, at beginning or advanced levels. Swimmers should be able to complete an hour-long training session in the pool.

Many Masters Swimming participants choose to participate in outside swim events. Because the Masters Swimming program is a registered swim club under U.S. Masters Swimming (USMS), all Galter LifeCenter master swimmers must register with USMS in order to participate in any USMS sanctioned event, such as the Big Shoulders 2.5K/5K open water event and the Postal Swim Series.  Click here to register with USMS or renew an existing membership.

Chicago hosts many pool and open-water races throughout the year which provide opportunities to compete and measure individual progress at the local and state level. These swim events are a place to meet with friends, make new ones and have fun while testing the benefits of your training. Click here to view a list of upcoming swim events in Illinois.
