Medical Fitness Week

Join us as we celebrate Medical Fitness Week, May 5-11! Bring your friends and family in for free* as we offer workshops and classes that highlight the special services we offer to our community. Learn more about the importance of health and wellness from our expert providers and trainers!

Registration is required for each workshop or class. Stop by the Galter Life Center Courtesy Desk or call 773-878-9936, ext. 5660 to reserve your spot.

Open House:
Invite your family and friends and try us out for free during Medical Fitness Week! Try out a Group Fitness class, reserve a pool lane or attend any of the special workshops offered during the week. Guests must be 18 years old and older. Photo ID is required upon entry.

Acupuncture Samples:
Community Acupuncture provides the healing benefits of over 2,000 years of Chinese medicinal practices at a substantially reduced cost. Patients are seen in a group setting in a relaxing atmosphere. Community Acupuncture can be just as effective as one-on-one treatments with many patients experiencing additional healing benefits from the communal setting. By inserting fi ne, disposable needles into specific points along the body’s energy pathways, or “meridians”, your practitioner will regulate the flow of qi, blood, and bodily fluids. Acupuncture needles are so thin that patients rarely feel them when they are inserted. Patients should wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing so that sleeves and pant legs can be rolled up for needle placement. Patients will be asked to remove socks and shoes.

CPR/AED Training:
Learn about the importance of CPR and how to respond in an emergency situation. This training features the interactive practices of CPR with a mannequin so individuals can understand how to properly perform chest compressions. The class will also demonstrate how to use an AED (Automated External Defibrillator).

Hybrid Latin Dance Party:
Pump up your Friday night with a Latin dance party workout! As you learn the basic steps of Salsa, Merengue, Bachata and Cha Cha you’ll get your heart rate up and have some spicy fun! Improve your dance skills and cardio!

Hybrid Yoga Nidra:
Take a moment to center yourself with Yoga Nidra. Yoga instructor Joseph B. will use a series of guided visualizations to move the mind into expanded self-awareness, yoga nidra releases the sources of anxiety, unwanted habits and self-limiting beliefs.

Meditation in the Garden:
Join Lin as you will explore mindfulness meditation practices and discuss everyday application. Reduce stress, increase emotional stability, improve sleep and more.
In case of inclement weather, Meditation will be held in Studio 4.

Nutrition Workshop:

Learn about nutrition and specific nutrients that will benefit those who want to live a healthy lifestyle. Find out how you can incorporate healthier foods in your diet and much more!

Presentation: Weight Loss Medications:
Guest Presenters: 
Dr. Michael McCormack and Kristi Agase
Galter Life Center will host a lecture by Dr. Michael McCormack and Kristi Agase about prescribing appetite-curbing medications like Ozempic, Mounjaro and more. This will include an safe, open discussion about weight management, risk factors with weight loss medications and more.

Workout of the Week (Synergy 360):
This 30-minute interval training workout will combine strength and cardio for an efficient, challenging workout that can be modified for all levels. Class size is limited to 10 participants.
