Galter LifeCenter recognized for excellence in programs, facility upkeep, more

Galter LifeCenter is proud to have been recognized once again as Chicago’s only Certified Medical Fitness Center. Following a rigorous assessment surveyors from the Medical Fitness Association found that we met and exceeded several standards of excellence for certified medical fitness facilities.

“We are extremely pleased to earn this certification which recognizes our results in working to improve the health of our community and our members,” said Richard Cunningham, Galter LifeCenter Director.  “This certification would not be possible without the excellent effort of our entire team along with the input and appreciation our members provide as they join us to improve or maintain their health. They all give 100% and it’s nice to learn that we achieved a 100% perfect score on our re-certification.”

“The management team is dedicated to the excellence of the LifeCenter and achieving best practice programs for all departments,” said surveyor Dan Lynch. “Passion can be found in every staff member and their goal is simple: create the best member community possible. We were also impressed with the 140+ group exercise classes per week and the aquatics department which keeps raising the bar and achieving excellence in all programming.”

Galter LifeCenter earned a perfect 100% score and was recognized for excellence in the following areas:

  • Longevity of staff. Many Galter LifeCenter staff members have worked at the facility for 20 or more years, resulting in a high level of engagement and knowledge about programs and services.
  • Facilities and equipment. Facilities were found to be very clean and well-maintained, and signage was helpful and clear.
  • Excellent communications. Surveyors praised the high levels of communication within Galter LifeCenter and with Swedish Covenant Hospital staff.
  • Support from hospital administration. The president of Swedish Covenant Hospital, Anthony Guaccio, along with other hospital administrators, demonstrated their commitment to ensuring that Galter LifeCenter meets the needs of its members and the community.
  • Organization among staff. Staff members were well-prepared for the exam and ready to provide extensive documentation for surveyors.
  • Physician support. “The Physician Advisory Board plays a very significant role in the clinical integration of programming and management decisions,” said Lynch. “And the integrative medicine department is forward thinking in their redesign/expansion of their multi-specialty treatment rooms.”
  • Child care area. The child care area is an asset to the facility; in particular, surveyors praised the security and paging measures used at Galter LifeCenter.
  • Aquatics department. The aquatics department was praised for several best practices and its ability to serve the community.

Galter LifeCenter first received certification in 2011, and the staff has since worked to maintain and improve programming and services to ensure our community members and patients have access to a safe, welcoming fitness environment.
