Meditation

Meditation has been shown to have numerous benefits, including reducing stress, anxiety, pain, blood pressure, stroke and heart attack risk, age-related brain deterioration and more. It has also been shown to increase emotional regulation, resilience, self-control, memory and learning.

We offer seated meditation classes which elicit the relaxation response through relaxed, focused breathing. We also offer moving meditation classes such as Qigong and Tai Chi, which increase mental and physical awareness and energy while also being deeply relaxing.

Mindfulness Meditation has been shown to have numerous benefits including:

  • Decrease stress and improve resilience
  • Lower blood pressure, stroke and heart attack risk
  • Drastically decrease physical and emotional pain
  • Reduce inflammation
  • Treat depression and anxiety
  • Decrease age-related brain deterioration
  • Improve self-control, memory, learning and more!

The Mindfulness Meditation Initiative
This 8-week course is designed to teach participants how to practice Mindfulness Meditation with particular emphasis on dispelling common myths about meditation and discussion of how to apply this practice to everyday life.

If you have never tried meditation or have tried it but struggle to make it a regular practice, this class is for you! Receive ongoing support and instruction while learning 4 basic types of meditation.

Each thirty-minute class will include a guided meditation as well as discussion of the intent of meditation, tips for practice and Q&A. No need to sit on the floor – chairs will be provided! Yoga mats and cushions are also provided for those who prefer to practice while lying down or seated on the floor.

Attendance to at least two classes per week is strongly encouraged, but you may attend as many as you want! Participants are also encouraged to practice at home. To assist in establishing a home practice, guided meditations from popular meditation apps will be suggested weekly for those who wish to use them.

If you are unable to attend the same class times each week – no problem! This course is designed to be flexible. Attend whichever classes work for you. Each week will cover a different theme. So, although the content of the classes throughout the week may vary slightly depending on the questions and comments presented by participants, each week of classes will have the same focus.

"I just finished the CORRECTive Exercise class with Cliff Morland and thought it was the best. I started with little ability to use my left arm due to a sprained shoulder and after 8 weeks recovered 80 - 90% use of that arm over what I had been able to do. I highly recommend this course to others." - Dan
