Many individuals would love to reach their optimal health and wellness, but most do not achieve their ambitious goals and become discouraged along the way. How can we stop this cycle?
Exercising, eating well, reflecting on overall health and taking new approaches toward wellness are all steps in the right direction for accomplishing goals. However, sometimes we need a little more; guidance, planning, accountability, support, challenges, and motivation are a few of the things a wellcoach can bring to your life. Through goal setting, a wellness coach helps turn visions and intentions into actions and reality. With thoughtful assessment and inquiry, collaborative problem-solving and goal-setting, and safe, open and honest dialogue, coaches help their clients gain clarity on where they are, where they want to be, and how to get there.
How it works
You first provide background information through a well-being assessment which allows your coach to fully understand key issues as well as any medical considerations. Next is the initial session: 60-90 minutes where you identify your priorities and develop a wellness plan, including a vision, three month goals and the first steps. Third, you will meet weekly in person or by phone to progress toward your vision and three month goals. You will explore and resolve the most pressing issues, learn something new and then agree on a set of goals for the following week. Toward the end of the three months you can expect to reach 70 percent of those goals and feel energized and confident to embark on new areas with or without your coach.
The three month and weekly goals are made to create a pathway to your wellness vision. You, with guidance from your coach, will set three to five goals to achieve per week, usually in two to three areas:
These objectives help enable you to take small, manageable steps toward the three month goals. Taking the time and commitment to finding your best self may be just the change you need. Whether it’s energy, happiness, sleep, stress management, weight management, control, healthy food choices or lifestyle changes, each one affects your total wellness.
