Parents: How do you cook with kids in the kitchen?

Encouraging young kids to help out in the kitchen is a great way to teach them about food and healthy eating. Everyone seems to be talking about it: Jenise Celestin of the North Side In & Out blog, Caroline Lubbers, the blogger behind Whipped (who Well Community recently profiled) and Purple Asparagus all recently shared tips on cooking with kids.

But balancing fun, education and safety in the kitchen can be tough — especially if you are hurrying to get food on the table.

Parents — How do you do it? Please share your tips below or on Well Community's Facebook Page.

Cooking with my 3 1/2 year old can be challenging, but definitely fun, quality time.  If we are going to cook together we plan it ahead of time (so we know we won't have to rush) and I let him help pick the menu item(s), so that he is invested and interested.
