ONGOING PROGRAMS

Personal Fitness Strategy
New members, take advantage of four FREE one-on-one sessions with a Fitness Specialist. There is an initial (consultation) session, two fitness strategy sessions and a three-month follow up re-assessment. The appointments are designed to identify your current fitness needs in order to strategize how to achieve your fitness goals. Offer valid during the first three months of membership. After three months, BodyAge evaluations are available to all members for a fee. Let our experts give you advice on achieving your goals! Rehabilitation Medicine Services
Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy are available for acute and chronic musculoskeletal and neuromuscular disorders. The OT Clinic is staffed by a Certified Hand Therapist. Among the problems treated are: sports injuries, post-reconstructive surgery, neck and back pain, and work-related injuries. Call the Rehab Department at (773) 989-1682. Physician referral required.

Meet the Physical Therapist
Are aches and pains limiting your activities? Ask a Physical Therapist for advice. Consultation takes place in 1st floor PT Department. Wednesdays, Oct. 1, 15, Nov. 5, 19, and Dec. 3, 17, 4:00-6:00 pm. Call (773) 878-6888 to set up your 15-minute appointment. Members Only - FREE.

Pulmonary Rehab Phase II
This is the initial outpatient conditioning program for those with chronic pulmonary disease. This medically based program utilizes exercise, education, and breathing re-training. Doctor referral required. Call ext. 7321 for more information.

Pulmonary Rehab Phase III
Pulmonary conditioning exercise program - medically supervised, community-based for those with pulmonary disease.

Cardiac Rehab Phase II
This is the initial outpatient conditioning program for those with heart disease. This medically based exercise program monitors EKG, heart rate, blood pressure, and symptom responses.

Cardiac Rehab Phase III
Cardiac Conditioning Program--a medically supervised community-based exercise program for cardiac patients and those at risk for heart disease. Doctor referral required for Pulmonary and Cardiac Rehab Phases I and II. Call ext. 7321 for more information.

Nutrition Services
Nutrition plays a key role in your overall wellness. Galter LifeCenter's Registered Dietitians are available to assist you with meeting your health and weight goals by providing guidance related to weight loss, healthy meal planning, diets for treating specific medical conditions, and much more! Several packages are available to meet your needs:

  • Private Nutrition Counseling - This is a private session where you may discuss your personal goals with one of our skilled Registered Dietitians. Half hour sessions and packages are also available. Fee: M $65/hr NM $75/hr.
  • Fitmate: Measurement of your Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR) and results review with an RD. See how many calories you burn at rest, then add in activities of daily living and exercise and you'll know how many calories you burn each day! Fee: M $60, NM $70.
  • Wellfit: Combines private nutrition counseling with personal training and other GLC services such as massage, yoga, and Pilates. Fee: M $400, NM $500.
  • Individual Nutrifitness: Targeted for weight management, combines nutrition counseling with personal training, including comprehensive lab work, a stress test, and measurement of your RMR. Fee: M $575, NM $675.

Nutrifitness for a NU You!
This comprehensive 12-week group weight loss program is designed for clients who are overweight or with medical conditions directly related to weight gain. The group class includes:

  • Twice weekly workouts with a GLC Certified Personal Trainer
  • Weekly nutrition lectures given by a GLC Registered Dietitian
  • Regular behavioral sessions with a GLC Clinical Psychologist
  • Stress test performed through Swedish Covenant Hospital's Cardiac Rehab Dept
  • Comprehensive lab work from Swedish Covenant Hospital's Outpatient Lab
  • Measurement of Resting Metabolic Rate
  • Pre- and post-class fitness assessments
  • Incentives are provided

Arthritis Foundation Aquatic Program
A 45-minute water exercise routine geared specifically to those with arthritis. Improve joint flexibility and coordination, reduce muscle weakness, and decrease pain and stiffness. Mon.1:30 - 2:15 pm; Mon./Wed. 6:45-7:30 pm; Tue./Thurs. 10:00-10:45 am, Tue./Thurs./Fri. 11:15 am-Noon; Sat. 10:45-11:30 am.

Arthritis Foundation Exercise Program
This is a chair exercise program designed specifically for people with arthritis, using gentle activities to help increase joint flexibility and range of motion to maintain muscle strength. Strength Training for Osteoporosis
This course is designed to teach proper strength training exercises to people with osteopenia to osteoporosis. Informative sessions along with a nutrition session will be included in this course. Acupuncture - Traditional Chinese Medicine Services
Acupuncture is a form of Traditional Chinese Medicine that promotes natural healing in the body. It allows the body to repair itself and maintain its own health. Common conditions treated by acupuncture include: stress/anxiety, digestive issues, pain/injury, insomnia, gynecological dysfunction, and much more. Wastu Aquatic Therapy Services
Watsu or Water Shiatsu is a passive form of Aquatic Therapy practiced in 92-94 degree water temperature. Watsu has been used within a general wellness population and to help manage medical symptoms such as Arthritis, Fibromyalgia, etc. A Physician Consent Form is required to participate in Watsu. Clinical Massage Therapy Services
Clinical Massage Therapy is an effective, non-pharmacological form of pain relief that improves blood supply and nutrients to muscles by increasing circulation in the body. Our licensed Clinical Massage Therapists provide a variety of therapeutic styles, such as, Postural Re-education, Trigger Point Therapy, Deep Tissue, Myofascial Release, Pre/Post Natal, Sports, Swedish Massage and Thai Bodywork.

Reflexology Services
Reflexology is a technique which applies pressure to reflex areas (nerve endings) on the feet and hands that correspond to all organs and parts of the body. It releases stress and tension, improves blood supply, improves nerve impulses, normalizes and brings balance to the body.

Reiki Services
Reiki helps the body connect to its own natural healing abilities. Benefits may be deep relaxation, pain reduction, improved immune function, increased vitality and well-being. Reiki helps the body to restore balance on physical, mental and emotional levels.

Support your daily activities and maximize your workouts through proper body alignment. Join Complementary Health Services and the Personal Training team to learn how your posture affects you, and how proper stretching, strengthening, and Clinical Massage Therapy can contribute to a healthy posture. AQUATIC/SWIMMING PROGRAM

Private Swim Lessons Adult/Teen/Children
Did you always want to learn how to swim but were afraid of the water? Learn to swim or refine your skills, no matter what your age. Work one-on-one with a qualified Galter LifeCenter Swim Instructor in order to overcome water based trauma. Learn to breathe properly and make swimming an integral part of your fitness routine. Swimmers of all levels and abilities are welcome. All instructors are certified as Water Safety Instructors by the American Red Cross. Lessons scheduled at your convenience. Lessons are 1/2 hour in length. Fee: M $90/5 lessons, $160/10 lessons, NM $110/5 lessons, $200/10 lessons.

Children's Group Swimming Lessons #4
This children's swim class provides a healthy group environment for children to learn to swim, according to American Red Cross Certification Standards. The Galter LifeCenter's warm water environment (typically 85 to 90 degrees) is ideal for children to become comfortable with the water. The Saturday evening program is ideal for busy families. Galter Children's Swim Club #4
A swim team setting that gives children who are able to swim the length of the pool (25 yards) the opportunity to develop their swimming skills in a fun, supportive environment. Designed for children and youths seeking to develop advanced swimming skills, this program is coached by experienced competitive swimmers. 10-week session for ages 6-17. Registration in progress. Masters Swimming Program
This on-going swimming program is ideal for masters' swimmers, tri-athletes or anyone who is looking to increase their fitness level. As a minimum, participants should be able to complete two lengths (50 yards) of the pool. Both advanced and beginner swimming tracks are available. Nationally and internationally ranked coaches provide instruction. 4th Quarter: Mondays and Thursdays, 5:45-6:45 am; Tuesdays and Thursdays, 12:00-1:00 pm and 5:30-6:30 pm; and Saturdays, 6:45-8:00 am. Family Swim Day
This is an event that gives families the opportunity to swim at the LifeCenter. Open only to members and their immediate family. There is a minimum of one adult per two children. Program takes place in the East Pool and children must be 13 years of age or younger. Bring your family and come have a day of fun at Galter! Registration required two weeks prior to scheduled date. Pilates for New Moms
Four-week session of small group mat class with a certified Pilates instructor who will help women who've recently had a baby (in the past year) engage and strengthen the muscles that are weakened during pregnancy. Babies are welcome to come and watch or may stay in the nursery during the class for a small fee. Two sessions are offered: Fridays, Sept. 26-Oct. 17 and Nov. 14-Dec. 5, 12:30-1:15 pm. Heart of a Woman
A total approach to Women's Cardiovascular Fitness and Health. Extreme Boot Camp
Class meets three days a week. Expect varied, CHALLENGING, and motivating workouts that will test your physical strength, endurance, stamina, additional time for stretching has been added. Cardio Resistance Training (CRT)-NEW

BOSU Sports Conditioning
This BOSU course will focus on conditioning your body for functional improvements. Six Pack Abs

Balanced Body
A total body workout using the BOSU, stability ball, and body bar. This innovative class will strengthen the entire body, increase flexibility, and improve balance and posture. Abs Express-MEMEBERS ONLY

Pilates Basics
Four-week introductory course of small group mat class with a certified Pilates instructor who will break down Pilates mat class exercises with the goal of helping individuals be able to participate in larger group mat classes. Intro to Pilates Apparatus workshop

Tai Chi Chuan - Long Form, Part one
Beginning or intermediate class. This class teaches the Long Form developed by Master H.H.Lui. Its many movements incorporate level changes and twists and are more complex and challenging than the Tai Chi Chuan for Elders form. Two Sessions offered: Beginning-Mondays, Oct. 6-Dec. 8, 7:00-8:00 pm, and Intermediate-Wednesdays, Oct. 1-Dec. 3, 7:00-8:00 pm. Fee: M $90, NM $110.

Intro to Tai Chi
Familiarize yourself with the fundamentals of tai chi. Begin learning the foundations and basis of this long form series in a safe, comfortable environment. This is a concise, concentrated course to give an introduction to beginners or students who are new to their practice. Sundays, Nov. 16 and 23, 8:30-9:30 am. Fee: M $30, NM $40.

Introduction to Feldenkrais
Please join Mary Ann Malloy in this 5-week course on the Feldenkrais Method. It is a form of somatic education that uses gentle movement to improve flexibility and coordination. By bringing awareness to habitual neuromuscular patterns, the method expands options for new ways of moving. Musicians, actors, athletes, and seniors with central nervous conditions have benefited from this method. Sundays, Oct. 5-Nov. 9 (NO class Oct. 26), 10:30-11:30 am. Fee: M $85, NM $110.

Yoga for the Full(er) Figure
This class is intended for students who may have hesitated to try yoga fearing they might feel uncomfortable or be unable to keep up with the class. This class will introduce generally fit yet fuller-figured beginning students to a well-balanced Hatha practice in a safe, comfortable environment, emphasizing accommodations for body type. Please wear comfortable clothing and refrain from eating for 2-3 hours before class. Taught by Renee Chester. 11-week course. Sundays, Oct. 5-Dec. 14, 2:00-3:00 pm. Fee: M $95, NM $145.

Kundalini Yoga
Explore the multi-dimensional healing properties of Kundalini Yoga. Each weekly healing theme will combine movement, breathwork, chanting, mudra and meditation. The energetic healing of this tantric practice will focus on balancing the chakras. This course can be challenging for a beginner. Taught by Juliane Mankowski. 6-week course. Saturdays, Nov. 1-Dec. 13, 1:00-2:30 pm. Fee: M $85, NM $110.

Intro to Yoga

Argentine Tango
Experience Argentine Tango, the internationally famous and romantic dance of Argentina! Argentine Tango is a fun way to learn better balance and coordination, all to some of the most inspirational dance music in the world! This class will focus on tango fundamentals including the basic steps, proper walking technique, the frame, floor navigation, etiquette, posture and musicality. Having a partner is encouraged but not necessary. Please wear comfortable shoes, preferably leather soled. Choose from two different classes, level 1 or level 2. Functional Fitness-NEW
Learn exercises on the TRX, BOSU, and stability ball to help you improve your every day functions. Tamme Quintero will take you through many challenging workouts, and have you begging for more. 6-week course. Space is limited to SIX participants. Band Blast-NEW
You would be surprised how much you can do with a rubber band! Get a challenging full-body workout all while using a band for resistance. Tone your arms and legs, while experiencing new easy-to-follow exercises. Taught by Megan Slattery. 3-week course. Fridays, Nov. 7-21, 9:00-10:00 am. Fee: M $25, NM $40.

Workout on the Go-NEW
Traveling for the holidays? This one hour workshop will take you through a challenging full body workout. You will do a variety of exercises, which you can do anywhere. Taught by Diana Dimas. Thurs., Nov. 20, 7:00-8:00 am. Fee: M $15, NM $20.
